MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — It’s been a busy few days for the Lanett Panthers men’s basketball team but that time has not been wasted.

The team is currently in Myrtle Beach, S.C., attending the Beach Ball Classic, said coach Richard Carter.

“We lost last night to the number 33 team in the nation,” he said Wednesday. “Clark High School out of Las Vegas was loaded for bear.”

Carter noted that while his team did well in the first half, they “ran out of gas” in the second.

But that loss only fueled a drive to win, which the team pulled off Thursday against Fairland High School of Ohio.

A last second tip-in by Jaquarious Houston won the game 72-70 at the buzzer and Kristian Story led Lanett with 21 points.

Terrion Truitt dished out 11 assists to tie for the sixth best single game in the 37 years of the Beach Ball Classic.

“The team played really great,” Carter said. “I’m very pleased.”

Despite the joy at winning, the team lost their second game of the day but that loss hasn’t diminished their spirits.

“It’s the who’s who here,” Coach Carter explained. “They’re the real deal and if you win any games here it’s an accomplishment.”

The Lanett men’s team will play again Friday at 3:30 p.m. EST against Scott County, Ky.
