LaFayette track competes in Opelika

OPELIKA — The LaFayette High School track and field teams competed on Saturday at the Mike Spain Invitational, hosted by Opelika High School.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs both placed fourth out of four teams. Opelika, Central-Phenix City and Oxford all participated.

Eighth-grader Antavious Woody led the LaFayette boys. He won the discus with a throw of 126 feet, 9 inches, and placed third in the shot put with a heave of 41-10.5

JaMarquez Boston-Gaines, a senior, also had a solid showing. He took fifth in the long jump (19-5) and eighth in the triple jump (39-2).

Omar Turner was the only other Bulldog to notch a top five finish. He placed fifth in the shot put (41-5).

Keaundra Woody led the way for the LaFayette girls. She won the long jump with a leap of 16-1.5 and took second in the triple jump with a leap of 34-5.

Woody also ran a leg on the Lady Bulldogs 4×100-meter relay team that finished second in 52.42 seconds. The team was comprised of Woody, Daylan Wright, Mon’keliyah Morgan and Alahbra’j Todd.

Individually, Todd placed fourth in the long jump (15-8) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.19).

Teammates Kendra James, Feliah Greer and Janeria Gaines captured top five finishes in their top events.

James took second in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.99 seconds; Greer was fourth in 18.89 seconds. Gaines placed fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 4-4.

Saturday’s competition was LaFayette’s last of the regular season. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will compete at the Class 2A, Section 3 meet this coming weekend at Beauregard High School.Lanett will participate as well.

On the line will be trips to the state meet, scheduled for May 3-5 in Cullman.
