Mr. Ronald Lee Starnes

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — Ronald Lee Starnes died on Thursday, July 19, 2018 in Ocean Springs MS. Ron served the community in his paid working life as the executive director of the Lower Chattahoochee Valley Planning Commission and the historic Illges House in Columbus, Ga., which was was later named the Ronald Starnes Regional Development Center. In his retirement he worked in Ocean Springs as a volunteer for the Planning Commission, Lord as My Help, and as a deacon for the Presbyterian Church. Ron brought joy to many, especially when he danced and performed at many local nursing homes. This strong, kind Georgia Bulldog will be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother; and his wife of 34 years, Shirley Starnes.
Survivors include his son, Steve, and his daughter, Kathleen Wiggs-Stayner, and stepchildren, Toni (Kevin) Taylor, Jerri (David) Holladay, and Jeff (Karmen) Leavins; his grandchildren, Chris (Crystal) Taylor, Heather (Matt) Roberts, Danielle Holladay, Ryan (Audrey) Taylor, Payton (Will) Gregory, Laney Leavins, and Olivia Leavins; six great-grandchildren; and his sweetheart, dance partner and best friend, Jo Longley.
