› The Kiwanis Club of West Point meets regularly the second Monday of each month at noon at Momma Goldberg’s and the fourth Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Momma Goldberg’s in historic downtown West Point. Join us and see what Kiwanis is planning in West Point and Lanett. Newcomers are welcome!

› The Chambers County Commission’s Rules, Ways and Means Committee will have a budget meeting at 2:30 p.m. CDT (3:30 Eastern) on Monday, August 27, 2018 in the commission office in the courthouse in LaFayette. The full commission will meet at 4 p.m. CDT (5 EDT) on the same day. The Valley City Council will meet at 6 p.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 27.

› A monthly dementia support group meets at 6:30 p.m. EDT on the first Tuesday of the month at the Chattahoochee Hospice office, located at 6 Medical Park N0rth in Valley. A monthly grief support group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday at the Hospice office. For more information, call (334) 756-8043.

› The Interfaith Food Closet helps families with emergency food. Located on 20th Avenue behind the Langdale United Methodist Church, it’s open each week day, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9-11:30 a.m. EDT; Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 p.m. and Wednesday 5:30-6:30 p.m. Each person must have proof of residence and a photo ID. If you would like to contribute to this very important ministry that serves around 100 families per month. Please send your contribution to Interfaith Food Closet, P.O. Box 541 Lanett, AL 36863.

› The West Point Active Life Center is a recreation center for independent adults who are at least 55 years of age. Lunch is provided five days a week for those who are 60 and older. There’s also activities, games, billiards, quilting, exercise classes, trips and every Wednesday, FREE BINGO at 10:30 a.m. EDT. The Active Life Center serves West Point and the surrounding area.

› The Christian Service Center is open from 8 a.m. till noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. It’s open on Tuesdays by appointment and from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. To apply for assistance, you will need to bring your current electric bill and a photo ID. The Center is currently accepting donations of children’s clothing that’s in good condition.

› Lanett High School will be hosting an open house for the fall semester at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Monday, Aug, 27 in the school cafeteria. Lanett Junior High will hold a PTSO meeting and open house at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 in the cafeteria. Parents, guardians and family members are invited to attend. › The Chambers County Forestry Landowners will have their planning meeting at the Farmers Federation building in LaFayette at 6 p.m. CDT ( 7 p.m. Eastern time) on Wednesday, October, 11, 2018.

› At 6 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, August 28th the Alabama New South Coalition will be hosting “No Vote, No Voice; Use It or Lose It” at Bradshaw-Chambers County Library. The purpose of the event is to organize and educate people on making their voices heard prior to the November 6 midterm election. Sam Champagne of the Alabama Voting Project will be speaking on how voting rights can be restored for people who were formerly incarcerated.
