Mr. Richard A. Walker

VALLEY – Richard A. Walker passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, August 2, 2018, surrounded by family.  Richard was born in Morris, IL on November 6th, 1947.  After graduation from Morris Community High School in 1965, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy in Patrol Squadron 28 and 6 during the Vietnam War (1966-1970).  Following his military service, Richard moved to Minooka, IL and continued his career with Caterpillar for the next 40 years until retirement.  In 2015, he moved to Valley, AL to be closer to his family, where he lived for the remainder of his years.

Richard was known for his generosity, his love of fishing, and his cabinets full of sweets he would hand out to anyone willing to take them.  Nothing in the world meant more to him than the love of his family and God. 

Richard is survived by his four children: Keri Andrews, John Walker (Dena), Amy Coote, and Richard W. Walker; seven grandchildren: Shaina White (Gabe), Melanie Walker (Justin), Brandon Walker, Alex Zweeres (Karli), Seth Coote, Josh Coote, and Brett Andrews; and four great-grandchildren: Bradley Webb, Brodie Webb, Zoie Zweeres, and Brynlie Zweeres; in addition to many more beloved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Berniece Walker; his brother, James Walker; and his sister, Wanda Enger.

Visitation will be held Friday, August, 3rd from 5-7 pm EST and the funeral service will be Saturday, August 4th at 10:30 am EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, 3700 20th Ave, Valley, AL 36854.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to the American Diabetes Association.  He will be laid to rest at Langdale Cemetery, overlooking the Chattahoochee River, where he encourages everyone to bring a fishing pole when visiting.
