MONTGOMERY — The young Chambers Academy’s volleyball team is two wins away from a state championship.
The team defeated Meadowview Christian School 3-1 during Monday’s AISA elite eight stage. The Rebels won by a score of 25-21, 25-17, 21-25, and 25-19.
Bailey Allen led the team in kills with 16 to go along with an ace. Claire Allen had 13 assists and two aces. Britten Stephens had three aces and one kill. Bailey Allen and senior J’Angelica Abney each had a block during the match.
Although Monday’s performance was enough to advance to the final four, head coach Jaylan Reynolds thought there was room for improvement.
“We weren’t as sharp today as I have seen us play,” Reynolds said. “I believe the layoff between Thursday’s matches to today had an effect. If we can elevate our play to the level we reached against Cornerstone in our final regular season match, I believe we can compete with anyone in the state.”
The Rebels’ volleyball program recently won a state title with the junior varsity team, which is also led by Bailey Allen. This season’s success has all come under Reynolds’ first year at the helm.
Chambers now faces Eastwood starting at noon CT. in Montgomery at the Cramton Bowl Sportsplex. The winner of that match will play for the state championship later that day.
