› The November meetings of the Chambers County Commission are set for Wednesday, Nov. 14 (due to the election) and Monday, November 19. The meetings start at 4 p.m. CST (5 Eastern) and are held in the commission chamber inside the county courthouse in LaFayette.
› The West Point City Council has scheduled public hearings for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 8th and 5:30 on Tuesday, November 27th to hear public comment on the proposed 2019 city budget. A copy of the proposed budget is available for review at West Point City Hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or at www.cityofwestpointga.com.
› This year’s Farm-City Tours will be taking place on Friday, November 9th. To register, contact the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce at (334) 642-1411 or www.greatervalleyarea.com. It will begin with an 8 a.m. EDT breakfast at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Lanett, followed by a tour of the WestRock plant in the Huguley Industrial Park. Attendees will also see a demonstration by the Chambers County K-9 unit. After a break for lunch, the tour will go to Langley Farms near LaFayette. The tour will conclude at the Hampton Inn at 3 p.m.
› The Interfaith Food Closet helps families with emergency food. Located on 20th Avenue behind the Langdale United Methodist Church, it’s open each week day, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9-11:30 a.m. EDT; Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 p.m. and Wednesday at 5:30.
› Plant City Baptist Church will be providing free Thanksgiving meals again this year. If you’d like a free meal, contact the church office at (334) 644-1616 by Friday, November 16th to be added to the list. Plates will be available for pickup from 10:30 a.m. till noon on Thanksgiving Day. Delivery will be available to homes in Valley, Lanett and West Point.
› Fairview Baptist Church, located on River Road in Valley, will have free Thanksgiving dinners this year. Pick up and delivery times will be between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22. To reserve a meal, or meals, call the church at (334) 756-3746 and give your name, address, phone number, number of plates and whether if it’s for pick up or delivery.
› A dementia support group meets at 6:30 p.m. .EDT on the first Tuesday of the month and a grief support group meets at 6:30 on the first Thursday of the month at the Chattahoochee Hospice office.
› The Kiwanis Club of West Point meets during the noon hour on the second Monday of each month at Momma Goldberg’s in downtown West Point. Join us and see how we serve the children of West Point – “one child and one community at a time.”
› Life South Community Blood Centers, Inc., will have some blood drives in the local area the week of Nov. 5-Nov. 11. On Wednesday, Nov. 7th, the bloodmobile will be at Point University in West Point from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. EST. On Thursday, Nov. 8th it will be at CVS in Lanett from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 11th the bloodmobile will be at Loyd Presbyterian Church near LaGrange from 9:30 a.m. till 1:30 p.m.
› The Lanett Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Nov. 13th at the administrative building located at 506 First Street in Lanett. The public is welcome to attend.
› Bradshaw-Chambers County Library will host a Fun Friday adult Christmas party featuring local musician Gary Harris on Friday, Dec. 14th at 12 noon EST.
