A house fire caused significant damage to a home on 21st Street Southwest in Lanett on Wednesday night.
According to the Lanett Fire Chief Johnny Allen, the home was a total loss. The Lanett Fire Department and Huguley Fire Department responded to the scene between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. but found the building already in flames.
“The units got there the house was already heavily involved in fire,” Allen said. “Part of the roof had already collapsed and one of the external walls had already collapsed. They made a safety sweep and found nobody was in the structure.”
Allen said it took about 12 to 16 minutes for firefighters to get the blaze under control. He said nobody currently lived in the structure and nobody was inside when the fire occurred.
“It was pretty much a total loss when my crews got there,” Allen said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
