Mrs. Joanne Jones “Mama Jo” Jackson

LaGRANGE, Ga. — Mrs. Joanne Jones “Mama Jo” Jackson, 59, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 at her residence in LaGrange. Mrs. Jackson was born April 10, 1959 in West Point, Ga. to the parentage of the late Annie Ruth Jones and Jimmie Lee Rhodes. She was lovingly reared by Willie Lee and Sarah Watts, who preceded her in death.

Joanne was a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Cusseta, Ala. She was educated in the West Point School System, graduating in the top of her class in 1977. Joanne attended West Georgia Technical College (Troup Tech), H&R Block Tax School and various qualification courses to become a teacher.

A jack of all trades, “Mama Jo” was an artist, tax preparer, seamstress, and hair stylist. In 1985 Joanne became a teacher and taught at the Community Action for Improvement until 1998.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Roger Jones, William Henry Jones and Larry Joe Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memories a husband, Randy Jackson, LaGrange; two sons, Terence (Donna) Jones, Jacksonville, Fla., Cedric Jackson, LaGrange; one daughter, Jacobie Jackson, LaGrange; two sisters, Bobbie D. Jones, and Minnie J. (Greg) Trice, West Point; one brother, James  Morris Jones, West Point; three grandchildren, Sarah, Malia, and Olivia Jones, Jacksonville, Fla.; an aunt, Ophelia Jones, West Point; one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Jackson will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at 1 p.m. EST at the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Dr. W.T. Edmondson, pastor, Rev. Charles Trammell, Sr., eulogist, Rev. Jerome Spence and Min. Patrick Turner Sr., officiating. The interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery, West Point.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the M.W. Lee Mortuary.

The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 from 12 noon until the funeral hour. The family may be contacted at 1214 Hamilton Road, LaGrange.
