BEULAH — The Beulah baseball team improved to 2-0 on the young season after a 7-1 win over Wadley on Tuesday afternoon.
“It’s big for us,” Beulah head baseball coach David Russell said. “We lost against them twice last year. They beat us at home and on the road. To go in today and get that early win is vital. The kids and I were talking about it earlier about being on a revenge tour, and getting a lot of teams that beat us last year. To get that first one under our belt against someone who swept us last year is a huge win to start our season.”
Pitcher Colby Richey threw seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings in the effort for his second win of the season.
“Tonight, he was great,” Russell said. “It took him a second with the temperature and weather to get going, but in the second inning, he really started cruising and had command of his stuff.”
Although all of the leading hitters on the night tied one another for one hit, the Bobcats’ hits came during the most important times of the afternoon. Dylan Kilgore knocked in two runs with the bases loaded, and Dylan Coleman drove in three runs with two outs and the bases loaded. Isaac Gardner also had a key hit in the victory.
“We hit pretty well in two out situations tonight too,” Russell said. “That was big for us.”
Beulah’s game originally scheduled for Wednesday against Booker T. Washington has been postponed due to the scheduling of basketball playoffs. The Bobcats will travel to Central Coosa on Thursday.
