VALLEY — In an unusual twist, the former district one city council representative in Valley swore in the new one on Monday. Paul Story gave up the seat shortly before being sworn in as Chambers County’s probate judge. His successor, Jim Clark, was elected over two other candidates in a recent council meeting.
A good showing of family members and church friends were present for Clark’s swearing-in and to see Clark take his council seat for the first time.
“I want to thank this council for the guidance and support they have shown me,” Clark said. “I am looking forward to working with you. I also want to thank my family and friends for being here with me tonight. That means a lot to me.”
Clark commended Public Works Director Patrick Bolt and the men of his department on having been in Lee County for two days last week to help with the clean up after a devastating tornado killed 23 people and caused a tremendous amount of property damage on March 3.
“One of the things I like best about Valley is the way Valley people always reach out to help others in need,” he said.
