LaFAYETTE — A LaFayette police officer was arrested Thursday by agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement State Bureau of Investigation.

Quantavious Lockhart, 27, of Valley has been charged with two counts of rape first degree. He was arrested at the LaFayette Police Department on Thursday, and ALEA confirmed he is a police officer.

He was booked into the Chambers County Jail with bond set at $150,000.

Lockhart was not listed on the Chambers County inmate list as of 1:30 p.m. ET Friday afternoon.

LaFayette Police Chief George Rampey told The Valley Times-News that there was an officer who has been suspended, pending further investigation, but would not name the officer.

Lockhart is listed on the staff registry on the LaFayette High website, but it does not say his title within the school.

Chambers County Superintendent Kelli Hodge forwarded questions about Lockhart from the newspaper to ALEA.

LaFayette Mayor Barry Moody said the city has to take the position that it has no comment until more details become available.

However, he said the city took appropriate action with the suspension.

“We took the action that we needed to take from a city standpoint,” he said.

According to a the LaFayette Police Department’s Facebook page, Lockhart was a sergeant and was named Supervisor of the Year on Dec. 15.

The two counts of first-degree rape are Class A felonies, meaning he could face up to life in prison if convicted.

ALEA would not release any further information, as this is an open investigation.
