OXFORD — The Beulah softball team’s (23-8) season ended on Friday in the east regional round of the playoffs.
The Bobcats began the day with a 13-1 victory over Pike County to advance in the loser’s bracket and face Pike Road. Freshman Shelby Owsley, freshman Katie Morris and eighth-grader Savanna Clements all led Beulah with three hits in the victory. Owsley hit three RBIs in the effort as well.
Later that afternoon, Pike Road ended Beulah’s season in the double-elimination bracket with a 13-3 victory over the Bobcats.
Beulah was able to accomplish a team goal this season of taking one more step than last season. The Bobcats were able to win the 3A, Area 7 championship, and racked up plenty of impressive wins, including the comeback victory against No. 1-seeded Randolph County in the area championship.
Beulah returns next season with young talents like Morris, who hit four home runs in a two-week span toward the end of the season, and eighth-graders Brandy Phillips and Clements.
“The future’s bright with those young ladies,” Beulah head softball coach Stan Pepper previously said. “They love the game, they’re always having fun and as long as they’re having fun and going full speed, we’re going to be successful with them in the critical roles that they play because Brandy’s a pitcher, but she also plays shortstop for us. Savanna is our starting center fielder. I can’t remember the last time that Brandy actually struck out, she always at least makes contact and forces the defense to make a play. Savanna’s the same way.
“Katie’s got a bright future ahead of her if she just keeps her head on straight as she has right now, then she’ll be able to go somewhere in the future.”
