BEULAH — The Beulah softball team (22-6) is on its way to the regional round after defeating No. 1-seeded Randolph County twice to win the 3A, Area 7 championship on Wednesday night.
“I’m happy as I can be,” Beulah head softball coach Stan Pepper said. “We wanted to improve on what we did last year. Last year, we came in second. This year, we wanted to come in first and the girls worked hard to do that, they did and I was really proud of them.”
Beulah won the first matchup against the area tournament hosts 9-4, but saw a 4-1 deficit early in the second game. The Bobcats’ patience at the plate drew walks, seniors Kensley Taylor and Jasmine Bonilla reached base, a pivotal hit by freshman Katie Morris and a Randolph County fielding error at home plate allowed to make the contest competitive in the successful comeback attempt.
“I’m extremely proud of the seniors,” Pepper said. “They’ve worked extremely hard this year to make their last year a success.”
Next up for Beulah is another road trip, this time to Oxford in the regional round, at St. James.
“They’re in the same area as the No. 1 team in the state,” Pepper said of St. James. “It’s going to be a tough challenge. Right now, we have to recuperate from Wednesday night, I’m going to give them a couple of days off and then we’ll start back strong toward the end of the week.”
