Lanett City Schools Board of Education honors students and retirees Monday

The Lanett City Schools Board of Education honored three retirees Monday as well as its students. They were all from W.O. Lance Elementary School. LANETT — Monday was a bittersweet moment for many inside Lanett High School’s Library.
The Lanett Board of Education honored its top 10 students with a certificate but also said goodbye to three longtime employees.
This is one of our favorite meetings of every year,” Superintendent Phillip Johnson said. “We are able to recognize their achievements, how hard they have worked and what a special group they have been to our school.”
Johnson said the school board also appreciates the parent’s support.
“It takes a village to raise a child to college level, and we appreciate you working with us along the way,” he said.
Tiviana Sierra Jackson is Lanett’s valedictorian and Nyasia Jakia Mason is the salutatorian. The rest of the top 10 includes Tairrque Roqwan Baker, Trikweze Marperrious Bridges, Crystalyn Makiya Sprayberry, Nakia Lillian Denise Dutch, Timora Emeon Barrow, Aleisia Necaih Boyd, Princess Shardae Mallory and Ambria Ja’Ressa Jackson.
The school board also said goodbye to three employees who have all been in education for more than 10 years.
All of those honored Monday were from W.O. Lance Elementary School. Belinda Reed, lead school nurse with 30 years of experience, Michelle Langley, kindergarten teacher for 15 years and Judy Allen, instructional assistant for 12 years all received gifts from the school board.
W.O. Lance Elementary Principal Jamie Heard said those employees were some of the best workers a school could ask for.
“I’ve enjoyed working with them each and every day,” he said. “They will truly be missed, and I wish each of you tremendous success.”
Johnson said one of the many strengths within the school system is the love Lanett City School employees have for the students.
“These three certainly exemplify that,” he said. “We want to thank them for those years of service.”
Also Monday night, the school board approved a bid to replace five HVAC units in the kindergarten wing at W.O. Lance to Speedskil Air Conditional and Heating in Lanett. The contract was for $16,934.
Lanett Yearbook Editor Sierra Jackson also presented the 2019 yearbook to the school board.
