Mr. Alvin E. “Hip” Sanford — 1958-2019

CUSSETA — Mr. Alvin E. “Hip” Sanford, 60, of Cusseta, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Mr. Sanford was born in West Point on Aug. 25, 1958, to the late David E. Sanford and Dorothy Childs Sanford.  He was also preceded in death by a step­granddaughter Morgan Ivey.

He graduated from Lanett High School and when he was younger raced motorbikes in Penton.

Alvin was a very sweet, kind and loving person, who always had a kind and humble word or humorous story to everyone that he met.  He was always willing to help others in any way that he could.

He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Cusseta Volunteer Fire Department.

His passions in life were his family, riding his Harley Davidson, and classic cars and trucks.  He also held a brown belt in karate and practiced Tae Kwon Do.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Sanford; daughter, Karla Sanford; granddaughter, Lexi Sanford; sister, Dottie Sanford (Vince)  Johnson; niece, April Johnson; stepdaughters Crystal (Clay)  Cook and Kathy (Daniel) Miller; step-grandchildren, Emily Ivey, Jeffery Miller, Daniel Miller, Tyler Miller,, and special cousins Elbert and Lily McCarley.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019, at 2 p.m. ET at the Johnson Brown­-Service Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett. His family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. ET.
