WEST POINT — This past weekend’s severe weather missed the baseball parks in West Point, allowing the way for the Georgia Little League District 4 Tournament to be completed as scheduled.
The 10 and Under West Point boys earned a spot in the state tournament bracket after defeating South Fulton in two games. Tristan Hill led West Point in the first victory by going 2-for-2 at the plate while collecting an RBI and three stolen bases. Colt White hit a two-RBI triple, and Braydon Crowe hit a two-RBI double as well. Bryce Modling and Frank Huguley pitched for West Point in the first game. Modling earned the win on the hill.
In the series-clincher, White led West Point by going 2-for-3 at the plate with six RBIs on the day as well. White hit a double and a triple in the contest. Truitt Santoyo knocked in an RBI single, while Modling scored three runs. White was the winning pitcher for West Point.
This is the first time in four years that West Point has advanced to the state tournament.
“It’s great for the kids,” West Point Parks and Recreation coordinator George Greene said. “It’s good for our program, but it’s even better for the kids to go out there and experience something that a lot of people don’t get an opportunity to do. I hope they go and have a ball.”
The 10 and under boys state tournament is in Athens this year at Holland Park. West Point’s first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on July 6 in the double-elimination bracket.
The West Point 12 and under boys team’s season ended this weekend against the reigning United State Little League runner-ups Peachtree City. Hayden May scored the lone run for West Point on the weekend.
Three West Point softball All-Star teams will compete in the state tournament in Augusta on July 6. From July 13 through July 18, the 14 and boys will also host the district tournament in West Point. The 18 and under boys’ schedule is to be announced.
