LaFAYETTE — With just a little more than a month before schools welcome students back into classrooms, the Chambers County School District is working to make learning facilities a better place.
According to a news release from the school district, the roof on the media center wing and band building at Valley High School has already been replaced. The district said both projects passed inspection this past week.
“It’s a lot easier to get this type of work done when schools and other buildings are idle,” Chambers County School District Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hodge said in a news release.
“This is the time of year when we schedule the bulk of our facility improvements.”
Currently, the district said interior painting is being done on the inside of LaFayette Eastside Elementary and Five Points School. Hodge said there will be more painting throughout the district before school starts in the fall.
“Last summer, we painted the hallways at W. F. Burns Middle School, and we will begin painting the classrooms before the summer break ends,” she said.
Additionally, Hodge said the district’s maintenance crew will be making routine repairs and upgrades throughout the district’s facilities and in the information technology department.
“We conduct regular assessments of our greatest needs for improvement, and then coordinate a schedule for addressing those needs on a priority basis and according to available funding sources,” she said.
