LANETT — A Valley man was arrested Saturday morning in Columbus on attempted murder charges, according to a news release from the Lanett Police Department.
Arsenio Floyd has been charged with attempted murder and Charnesse Hightower of Columbus has been charged with first-degree hindering prosecution.
At about 12:50 p.m. on Friday, officers with Lanett were dispatched to the 1200 block of East 3rd Avenue for a possible shooting victim. Upon arrival, they found Jamal Mayfield, who was suffering from three gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene and taken to East Alabama Medical Center-Lanier in Valley for further medical treatment and later released.
During this incident, West Point Police received a 911 call from a female at the liquor store Frisky Whisky in West Point saying she shot her ex-boyfriend in Lanett. Officers went to the store and identified Hightower as the caller.
During the investigation, officers determined Hightower provided false information, who was then charged with hindering prosecution, and learned the shooter was allegedly Floyd. She is currently awaiting extradition, Lanett Police say. At this point, a warrant for attempted murder was obtained for Floyd, who was believed to be in Columbus.
After the active warrant was signed, the Columbus Police Department was made aware of the active warrant and potential location of Floyd. On Saturday morning, Columbus Police arrested Floyd and he is currently awaiting extradition back to Alabama.
