Two people were airlifted in Valley Thursday evening after a traffic crash in the 4900 block of 20th Street.
According to East Alabama Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Kerry Pickard, multiple vehicles were involved, and two individuals were critically injured and had to be extricated from their vehicles by the fire department.
Pickard said the individuals were also airlifted to a nearby hospital.
On Friday, Valley Police Major Mike Reynolds said at about 5:45 p.m., the driver of a Ford Expedition hydroplaned while on 20th Avenue, causing him to hit a second vehicle — a Kia Rio — which caused that vehicle to hit a Jeep Cherokee. The Rio and Cherokee then struck a utility pole.
Reynolds said the Expedition struck another vehicle, a Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck, after hitting the first vehicle.
He said a total of six people were transported to the hospital.
Reynolds said speed was probably a factor due to the flashes of rain in Valley Thursday afternoon that was heavy in some spots. He said it is not advisable to drive at high speeds on wet roadways or when it is raining.
“Speed limits that are posted are for optimum dry conditions,” Reynolds said.
No charges or citations have been filed as of Friday afternoon.
