FIVE POINTS — A Five Points man was arrested Monday in Tallassee by the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force on sexual abuse charges, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
Hugh Thomas Posey, 71, has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.
Chambers County Major T.J. Wood told The Valley Times-News Tuesday that the victim’s family notified law enforcement of the abuse and that the victim is not related to Posey.
Wood said he was not aware of any prior history of abuse by Posey, and he doesn’t know of any additional charges. He would not release when the incident took place.
Wood said the case is still being investigated, so no additional information would be released as of Tuesday.
He said the fugitive task force made the arrest and transported Posey to the Chambers County Detention Center. He was listed as having no bond on Tuesday afternoon.
Wood said the Tallassee Police Department assisted in the arrest.
