Troup high School choral department to host tribute to veterans

The Troup High School Choral Department will present “A Tribute to Veterans” on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Troup High choral members will share the stage with select students from Long Cane Middle School, under the direction of Asha Brown, and Berta Weathersbee and Long Cane Elementary Schools, under the direction of John Curry and Rosemont Elementary School, under the direction of Halee Kaleel.
A variety of songs will be performed, including popular songs from the 1940s, patriotic tunes, American folk songs and Armed Forces fight songs.
Kathy Kirby is in her seventh year as the Choral Director at Troup High after teaching music for 17 years at Long Cane Elementary and Berta Weathersbee. Kirby began her career in Douglasville as band director of Chestnut Log Middle School. In 1996, she moved to LaGrange to become the music specialist at Long Cane. Outside of school, Kirby has performed with the Choral Society of West Georgia, has played with the LaGrange Symphony for 20 years and is the West Georgia News Director for Eagle 102.3.
The concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Faith Baptist Church. Admission is free. Donations will be collected for the American Legion.
