OUR VIEW: Best of luck Lanett Panthers

High school football season ends one way or another on Thursday when Lanett plays Mars Hill Bible in the 1A state championship game.
Although it’s been a fun ride, we’re not sure Panthers’ fans can take another heart-stopping game like last Friday night, when Lanett scored in the final minute to beat Sweet Water.
The Lanett City Schools System is allowing students to get out early on Thursday so they can attend the game at Auburn’s Jordan Hare Stadium. There are also buses to take fans to the game.
We’re glad this decision was made, as it shows the school system’s support of this incredible team.
Since students are getting out of school, we hope to see a huge crowd there supporting the Panthers. Lanett can finish a perfect season Thursday and can win its second championship in three years. Lanett quarterback Kristian Story is also a few hundred yards from becoming the first player in Alabama High School Athletic Association history to reach 13,000 career yards and four touchdowns from 175 in his career.
Regardless of the outcome, Story has understandably received a lot of the attention statewide as the Panthers made their run through the playoffs. That’s what happens when you are breaking all-time records.
But there are 10 total seniors listed on the Panthers roster, and all of them have played a role in making Lanett a 1A power. We hope they get to go out on top on Thursday.
Regardless of the outcome, Lanett has had a tremendous year, and everyone involved with the program should be proud. That includes cheerleaders, band members and yes, even parents, who have sacrificed a lot of time and energy cheering on the team this year.
We wish the Panthers luck as they make their way to Auburn. We’re sure it’s going to be a tremendous game and a great atmosphere. We urge the players to soak up the memories, and we wish the Panthers good luck.
