Chambers, Lanett school systems handing out meals

On Monday, both local school districts announced they would continue their lunch program by allowing families to pick up bag lunches at certain delivery spots.
Chambers County Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hodge and Lanett City School Superintendent Jennifer Boyd gave more details about where and how to receive the food on Tuesday.
Starting on Thursday, eight schools in Chambers County will be giving out free meals.
In Lanett, W.O. Lance Elementary and Lanett High School/Lanett Junior High will serve meals from 11 a.m. until noon. The pickup at the high school will be at the front entrance, while the pickup at W.O. Lance will be at the Pre-K entrance. Students will need to be in the car to receive a meal.
In LaFayette, Eastside Elementary, J P Powell Middle School and Five Points Elementary will be the designated pickup spots. Eastside will hold its pickup from 9-10 a.m. CT. J P Powell will hold its from 9:15-10:15 CT, while Five Points will hold its pickup from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. CT.
In Valley, LaFayette Lanier Elementary, Hugley Elementary and Fairfax Elementary will be the designated pickups. LaFayette Lanier will go first, running from 8:30-9:30 a.m. EST. Fairfax will have pickups from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. EST. Hugley will go from 9:20 to 10:20 a.m. EST.
All pickups will include lunch and breakfast for the next day. If a family needs to pick up multiple meals for multiple students, a list of student’s names.
If a student isn’t able to go to a pickup site, parents can either call Child Nutrition Director Montray Thompson at (334) 864-9343 extension 10202 or email him at thompsonm@chambersk12.org to find out information for deliveries.
For both school districts, lunches are just pickups and are not to be eaten on school property.
