Troup County has had its first death from COVID-19, according to Dr. Olugbenga Obasanjo, director of Public Health District 4, who confirmed the death on Thursday.
He said the death occurred Wednesday, and the person’s positive test results for COVID-19 came back on Thursday.
No other details were released about the patient.
According to the newest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Troup County has 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
“This is not a joke,” Obasanjo said. “This, unfortunately, is the first arm of a wave that is coming and we are just getting the first taste of it. That wave has still not fully hit New York, and we are going to be feeling it shortly. This is not a joke.”
