After a couple of state championships at Lanett, Perry Jones is making a change.
Jones, who is entering his senior year of high school, has announced that he will be transferring from Lanett High School and will move to Troup High School.
“As a two-time state champion, named All-Area 2nd Team Small Schools my sophomore year, and a three-year starter what I say next may shock some, as I’ve been in the Lanett football program since the eighth grade, working consistently at my craft and being one of the main contributors on the team,” Jones said in his statement. “I will not be ending my final season at Lanett High School. A couple of weeks after the championship game my mother decided to move to West Point. It was very emotional for me to have this conversation and leave Lanett. Yet, this comes with growing up. With that being said I’m ending my high school athletic career at Troup High School in LaGrange, Georgia.”
Jones started at left guard during the Panthers 2019 state championship run and played defensive tackle on defense.
When the Panthers claimed their first state championship in 2017, Jones was the only freshman starting on the offensive line.
Jones has received four college offers so far.
His most recent offer was from Fitchburg State University, which he received on Tuesday. Fitchburg State is a Division III school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
He also has received offers from LaGrange College, Sterling College and the Atlanta Warriors.
Troup High School finished 6-5 last year. The Tigers have gotten more than 10 of their players to the next level in the last few years, as players like King Mwikuta, Kobe Hudson and Joko Wills have all made it to the Southeastern Conference in the last three years.
