Lanett’s girls basketball team could not overcome a slow start in the Reindeer Classis as the Lady Panthers fell to Eufaula 52-38.

After Lanett took a 6-4 lead in the first period, Eufaula completely took the game over. The Tigers went on an 18-0 run to end the first period and take a 22-6 lead into the second period.

“Really just came right off the bus and came in here got dressed and played,” Lanett coach Charlie Williams said. “Missed a lot of opportunities early. Missed a lot of layups, free throws, things of that nature.”

Laila Lancaster led the way for the Panthers. Lancaster finished the game with 12 points, nine rebounds, one steal and one block.

The Panthers continually fought back into the game, even cutting the lead to just eight in the fourth period. It just ultimately was too little too late for Lanett.

“We didn’t quit,” Williams said. “We kept fighting.”

Nakeriona Heard had a dominant game for the Panthers. Heard finished the game with 10 points, 12 rebounds and two steals.

Cameron Booker was another key contributor for Lanett. Booker finished the game with nine points to go along with five rebounds.

Three-point shooting was a struggle again for the Panthers. Lanett made none of its seven attempts from behind the arc. The Panthers connected on 13 of their 21 attempts from the charity stripe.

The loss on Friday dropped Lanett’s record to 6-3 on the season. The Panthers have one more day at the Reindeer Classic in Auburn as they face Wilcox Central on Saturday.
