The Beulah Bobcats won a thriller on Monday as they overcame a late deficit to defeat Wadley 53-51 at home.
It was senior night in Beulah, but it was sophomore Cam Baker who came up clutch when the Bobcats needed a basket. Down by three with 38 seconds to go, Baker hit a three-pointer to tie it up at 51. The Bobcats then came up with a stop on the ensuing possession and Baker broke through the crowd with the rebound and scored a layup over two defenders as time expired.
Baker led the Bobcats with 17 points in the matchup, scoring seven of his points in the fourth period.
Senior LJ Fitzpatrick looked like the most explosive player on the floor from the opening tipoff. Fitzpatrick followed Baker with 13 points in the game. Demarion Foreman added 11 points for the Bobcats in the matchup.
Early on, it looked like the Bobcats could pull away from the Bulldogs as Beulah held a seven-point lead at halftime. Beulah’s offense went stagnant in the third period as Wadley outscored the Bobcats 13-8 to cut the lead to two heading into the final frame.
The win over Wadley improved Beulah’s record to 7-8 on the season. The Bobcats will look to get back to .500 as they face area foe Randolph County at home on Tuesday.
