Kathy Lynn Widner, passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 64. Born on July 27, 1939, in Langdale, Alabama, she departed from this world in Opelika, Alabama.
Kathy’s life was one of devotion and laughter, marked by her enduring love for her husband of 48 years, James Widner. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories and shared dreams. Kathy’s spirit lives on through her daughter, Christy Widner, and her beloved grandchildren, Jamie Widner, Justin Mims, and Brandon Chatman (Haley). Her siblings, Libby Guy, Ann Heard (James), Sue Crenshaw, and O’Neal Yates (Connie), along with a host of nieces and nephews, will forever hold Kathy in their hearts. Her canine companions, Peanut, Boss, Max, J.W., and Pogo, were her constant and faithful friends, providing joy and comfort throughout her life.
Kathy was preceded in departure by her son, Michael Widner, and her parents, Evelyn and Everett Yates. Her family takes solace in knowing that she has been reunited with them in eternal peace.
A woman of many interests, Kathy found pleasure in the simple joys of life. She was an avid fan of computer games and social media, connecting with friends and family through the digital world. Her love for poetry reflected her deep appreciation for the beauty of language and emotion. Kathy’s passion for Alabama football was well-known. Music was another of Kathy’s loves, and she enjoyed most genres.
She was a beautiful soul with a beautiful heart, and her selfless nature was evident in every act of kindness she bestowed upon others. Kathy’s sense of humor was infectious.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel in Valley with interment following in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Todd Owen officiating. Her family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. EST until 7:00 P.M. EST.
