The fourth and final round of the 2024 Amazing Shake Competition took place on March 15, 2024. Finalists from each division were interviewed by Dr. Casey Chambley, the CCSD Superintendent, Dr. Sheila Jones, the K-8 Director of Curriculum, and Fran Groover, Director of Counselors and Testing.
The final group of students in the competition started the contest with approximately 30 or more of their peers from around the district. Each finalist advanced to the fourth round by passing successfully through the previous three rounds before beginning the finals.
The Chambers County School District announced the results of the second annual spring competition for The Amazing Shake contest for students. The Amazing Shake is a competition that emphasizes teaching students manners, discipline, respect, and professional conduct, according to a CCSD press release.
Students learn the nuances or variations of professional human interaction as they are taught skills such as how to give a proper handshake, how to “work a room,” how to give a successful interview, and how to remain composed under pressure.
The Amazing Shake Competition originated at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. The district expanded the competition this year to include two separate contests with one for fifth and sixth graders and another for seventh and eighth grade students. Participants from schools across the district met with judges to discuss their hobbies, interests and their schools. The students were scored on their conversation skills, charisma, and their personal introductions to the judges.
The top ten entrants in the competition advanced to the finalist competition held at the Chambers County Board of Education on March 15, for the fourth and final round of the contest. All of the students were judged on their ability to think quickly on their feet as well as their stage presence and poise.
The first round of the Amazing Shake took place at the ALFA Building in LaFayette between January 9 and 11. The second round of the competition was held at the Langdale Auditorium on February 9, and the third round of the competition was split between the Valley High School library on February 27 and the Chambers County Development Authority on March 11.
Sarah Maddux, Eastside-J.P. Powell Magnet School Academic Interventionist, served as the coordinator and chairperson for this year’s Amazing Shake contest for the district.
