Chambers Academy trailed from start to finish on Monday in a 16-6 home loss to Lakeside.
Chambers Academy fell into an early hole as three hits, three walks and an error from the Rebels gave the Chiefs a 5-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
The hill only got tougher to climb from there as Chambers Academy’s struggles on defense compounded in the top of the fourth inning and allowed Lakeside to add seven runs and take a 12-0 lead.
The Rebels finally fought back in the bottom of the fourth inning as a bases-loaded walk from Kole Baker got Chambers Academy on the board. The Chiefs struggled on the mound in the inning as another walk and a hit batter cut the lead to 12-3. One last walk cut the lead to eight before Drew Sheppard drove in two runs with a single to make it 12-6.
The rally proved to be short-lived as Lakeside put the game away in the top of the fifth inning with four runs. The Rebels got two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the runners were stranded as Payton Yerta struck out with two outs to end the game.
Luke Tarver led the Rebels on the night as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Chambers Academy finished with just six hits as a team.
Grant Jones got the start on the mound for Chambers Academy and allowed five hits and four earned runs in three innings.
The loss dropped the Rebels back to .500 with a 6-6 record. Chambers Academy will face Lakeside again on Tuesday in a doubleheader on the road.
