Springwood’s boys soccer team proved to be too much for the Glenwood Gators as the Wildcats won the battle of the unbeaten 4-1 on Tuesday.
The match was a defensive stalemate early on before Springwood found its footing on offense. Ryan Fuller broke the scoreless tie on an assist from Jacob Burton to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with 18:45 left in the first half.
From there, the Wildcats took complete control of the match. Guilherme Teixeira added an insurance goal for Springwood to push the lead to two with 10:35 left in the first half.
The Wildcats were not done yet as Jacob Burton broke through the teeth of the defense to give Springwood a commanding 3-0 lead with 9:38 left in the first half.
Springwood looked like a brick wall on defense for most of the match as Crawford and Dixon Fuller helped the Wildcats play a physical brand of soccer on the backline.
The Gators finally broke through late in the match as a ball slipped by keeper Guillermo Montes to put Glenwood on the board with 8:53 left in the match.
Teixeira seemingly put the game away with a penalty kick with 6:55 left in the match, but it was called back as a Wildcat entered the box too early. It did not matter though as Teixeira added another goal just over a minute later to send the Gators packing.
Springwood has been on a roll to start the season as the Wildcats look to defend their state championship. Springwood currently sits with an 8-0 record with a matchup against Lee-Scott Academy on the road on Thursday.
