This week is Small Business Week in Chambers County. The Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce announced the week of April 29 to May 3 as Small Business Week at Monday’s county commission meeting.
To celebrate they compiled some ways for individuals to get involved. Monday was Mention Monday where they encouraged people to tag their favorite small businesses on social media. Tuesday was Takeout Tuesday, where they suggested people eat at a local restaurant. While the week is almost over the chamber asks people to support local businesses throughout the year.
Wednesday is Woman Crush Wednesday to support women in business. Then on Thirsty Thursday stop by a restaurant or bar. Finally, they ask people to end the week with Five Star Friday, by leaving a five-star rating or positive review for a local business.
The GVACC will also partner with Milltown Nutrition and Gimme Some Sugar in May to recognize teachers, nurses and first responders by doing giveaways to the groups. Nominations for specific teachers, nurses, or first responders can be made on the businesses’ social media pages to win.
Tarin Parrish of the GVACC had other updates for the commission. The chamber had the first meeting of the realtor committee, which brought 13 local realtors together for networking.
Parish also said that the Junior Ambassador program run by the chamber has so far received 50 applications for the 2024-2025 cycle.
“We have decided with an overwhelming response for the next year’s program, we will do a selection process,” Parrish said.
She previewed some of the chamber’s upcoming events including a ribbon cutting at Gimme Some Sugar on May 8 at 11:30 a.m. CT to introduce the new owners. The 2nd Annual Kids Fishing Rodeo will be held on June 1 at 9:30 a.m. ET at Hardley Creek Park.
