After a rain delay and a postponement, Chambers Academy’s softball team finished what was supposed to be a doubleheader against Abbeville Christian on Wednesday. 

 

Game one: Chambers Academy – 8 Abbeville Christian – 11

 

The Generals got on the board first as two runs scored on a sacrifice fly and an error in the top of the first inning, but Chambers Academy quickly tied the game up in the bottom of the first inning as Makayla Foster blasted a two-run home run over the center field fence. 

Abbeville Christian took the lead back in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly, but Chambers Academy rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

Mary Riddle tied the game up at three with a double to score Riley Patterson before a bases-loaded walk scored Sophie Price to give the Rebels a 4-3 lead. 

The Generals took the lead again after a bases-loaded walk and a fielder’s choice, but the Rebels tied the game up again in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single from Olivia Daughtrey. 

The Generals took the lead again with two runs in the top of the sixth inning before a sacrifice fly from Allie Paschal cut the lead back to one run. Then, Abbeville took control of the game in the top of the seventh inning. 

A double and a single in the top of the seventh inning gave the Generals an 11-6 lead, and Chambers Academy’s late rally fell short. Foster drove in two more runs with a single before the game ended on a strikeout. 

Foster and Daugtrey led the way for Chambers Academy at the plate. The two finished with two hits apiece. Foster finished with five RBIs in the game while Daughtrey added one RBI. 

Alissa Andrews got the start in the circle for the Rebels. Andrews pitched three innings and allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk. Foster came in for relief in the fifth inning and allowed six earned runs on seven hits. 

 

Game two: Chambers Academy – 11 Abbeville Christian – 14

 

Game two had to wait a day due to severe weather in the area, but the result was similar with the Generals taking a narrow win. 

Abbeville Christian took the lead early on in the matchup as a single gave the Generals in the top of the first inning. An error gave Abbeville a 2-0 lead before another run scored on a ground out. 

The Rebels showed no quit in the bottom of the first inning as Stanford scored on a ground out before Gabby Coleman drove in another run with a single to cut the lead to one. Daughtrey then tied things up at three with a double. 

The Generals took control of the game in the top of the second inning with a grand slam. The Rebels cut the lead back to three in the bottom of the second inning as a run scored on a ground out. 

Chambers Academy kept cutting into the lead in the bottom of the third. Allie Paschal scored on a wild pitch, and a bases-loaded walk helped the Rebels get within one run. 

Things seemingly turned in Chambers Academy’s favor in the bottom of the fourth inning as Patterson drove in two runs with a single to give the Rebels an 8-7 lead. Then, Chambers Academy took control of the game as Ansley Carter drove in two more runs with a single. 

The Generals tied the game up at 10 after two singles in the top of the fifth inning, but the Rebels took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth as a ground out scored Foster. 

It was Abbeville again taking the lead in the top of the sixth inning as a triple and a double made it 14-11. Chambers Academy was able to get three runners on base in each of their last two half innings at the plate, but the Rebels were never able to bring a runner home. 

Coleman and Patterson led the way for the Rebels with three hits apiece while Gilliland, Foster and Carter each finished with two hits. 

Andrews got the start in game two and allowed four earned runs in one inning of work. Mary Riddle came in for relief and pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs. Sophie Price finished it off with four earned runs in three innings of work while striking out five batters. 

The loss dropped Chambers Academy’s record to 13-18 on the season. Up next for the Lady Rebels is a matchup at home against Autauga Academy on Thursday.
