Chambers Academy had its back against the wall for the better part of seven innings on Tuesday, but the Lady Rebels never quit as they produced a late rally and came away with a 6-5 walk-off win against Ezekiel Academy.
Coming into the bottom of the seventh inning, Chambers Academy trailed by a run. Ansley Carter and Makayla Foster started the rally with singles to start the inning. Olivia Daughtrey was walked to load the bases, and Gabby Coleman then ripped a single into right field to tie the game at five. Allie Paschal came up to bat and drove in the game-winning run with a single into right field.
The seventh-inning rally was impressive, but Chambers Academy started the comeback bid in the sixth inning. Down 5-2 heading into the inning, MaKenzie Gilliland roped a single into right field to cut the deficit to two. Then, Paschal scored on an error to cut the deficit to just one.
Ezekiel Academy had all the momentum early on. The Knights got the scoring started in the top of the third inning as a Double and an error scored two runs. The Lady Rebels struck back in the bottom of the third inning as Daughtrey cranked a two-run home run over the center field fence.
The Knights stole the momentum again in the top of the fourth inning as an error and a fielder’s choice gave them a 4-2 lead. A single in the top of the fifth inning gave Ezekiel Academy a three-run lead.
Sophie Price got the start on the mound for Chambers Academy. Price allowed just two hits and four non-earned runs in four innings of action.
Alissa Andrews replaced Price in the fifth inning and allowed two hits and one non-earned run in two innings. Blakely Allen finished things off for the Lady Rebels and struck out three batters and allowed just one hit in one inning in the circle. Errors were the main issue for Chambers Academy as the Lady Rebels finished with eight in the game.
Foster and Daughtrey dominated at the plate for Chambers Academy. Daughtrey finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs while Foster went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Paschal also finished with two hits, one RBI and one run.
The win pushed Chambers Academy to 14-19 on the season. Up next for the Lady Rebels is a doubleheader against Southern Christian on April 15.
