The Valley Rams celebrated senior night in style on Thursday as Valley mercy-ruled Beulah 10-0 in six innings. 

The Rams got the scoring started early as C.J. Chambley, one of four seniors, drove in his fellow senior Bryson Monteith with a single. The rest of the first half of the game was dominated by defense. 

Valley was impossible to score on with senior Jackson Sanders on the mound. Sanders put together another stellar performance, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out 11 batters. 

The Rams broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning as Matthew Mcdonald drove in a run with a fielder’s choice. The Rams then took advantage of some control issues on the mound for Beulah. 

With two outs, Valley scored its next four runs off of a bases-loaded walk and an error. Mason Yarbrough helped the Rams add to the lead with an RBI double to drive in Chambley. Seth Hammock capped off the inning with an RBI single. 

Beulah used five different pitchers in the game. Brady Blackston got the start and was pulled after two innings, allowing one earned run and two hits. Drew Duval replaced Blackston and allowed five earned runs off three hits and three walks. 

Valley had a chance to end the game in the fifth inning with the bases loaded, but Brayden Tapley worked his way out of the jam by striking out Yarbrough. 

That strikeout only extended the game for one inning as Clayton Sanders roped a line drive into right field to score the final run of the game. 

Valley finished with eight hits in the game, but the team’s plate discipline is what stood out as the Rams finished with nine walks and just one strikeout. 

Chambley replaced Sanders in the fifth inning and allowed no hits, three walks and no runs while striking out four batters in two innings. 

Valley has been one of the best teams in 5A this season, currently sitting at 17-3 on the season. The Rams will be back on the diamond on April 9 on the road against Beauregard. Beulah now sits at 8-11 with a home game against Wadley on Saturday up next.
