Rebels dominate doubleheader to get back to .500

Chambers Academy’s baseball team hosted Abbeville Christian Academy on Wednesday for a doubleheader, and the Rebels dominated the matchup in a sweep.
Game one: Chambers Academy – 13 Abbeville Christian – 6
Abbeville got the scoring started in game one in the top of the first inning as an error with the bases loaded scored a run. Two bases-loaded walks made it 3-0, but the Rebels were quick to dig themselves out of that early hole.
Chambers Academy completely stole the momentum in the bottom of the first inning. Kyle Hand drove in the first run with a single, and Jon Caulfield drove in another run with a single to cut the lead to one. An error on a ground ball hit by Grey Hayley drove in two more runs and gave the Rebels a 4-3 lead.
Errors continued to plague Abbeville in the bottom of the first inning as Hayley and Payton Yerta scored on errors to give the Rebels a three-run lead. Landon Hand drove in another run with a single before Jon Caulfield rounded out the scoring in the inning with a two-run single to put the Rebels up 9-3.
The Generals battled back in the top of the fourth inning as three runs scored on an error with two outs, but Chambers Academy quickly stifled that rally.
The Rebels added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Eli Whorton drove in two runs with a single. Luke Tarver later scored on a ground out and Eli Pritchard drove in the final run with a single.
Drew Sheppard got the start on the mound for the Rebels but was pulled in the first inning after allowing two earned runs with no outs. Caulfield came in for relief and allowed no earned runs in six innings of work.
Caulfield also led Chambers Academy at the plate. Caulfield went 3-for-4 in the game with three RBIs.
Game two: Chambers Academy – 13 Abbeville – 3
The Rebels were completely dominant in game two of the doubleheaders as Chambers Academy got a big lead early and never relinquished it.
The Rebels scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning as Eli Whorton reached on a walk with the bases loaded. Two more walks drove in two more runs before Sam Smith broke the game open with a two-run single. Yerta drove in another run with a single to give the Rebels a 6-0 lead.
The Generals added two runs on bases-loaded walks in the top of the second inning before adding their final run in the top of the fifth inning.
Chambers Academy once again stifled the rally in the bottom of the fifth inning as Luke Tarver scored on an error and Landon drove in a run with a single. Kyle drove in the final run in the inning on a single to give the Rebels an 11-3 lead.
Another bases-loaded walk gave Chambers Academy a run in the bottom of the sixth inning before Cameron Gooden scored on an error to round out the scoring.
Yerta and Smith led the way for Chambers Academy with two hits apiece. Smith finished with two RBIs while Yerta added one RBI.
Smith got the start on the mound for the Rebels and allowed two hits, six walks, no earned runs and two strikeouts in two innings of work. Kole Baker relieved Smith in the third inning and allowed just one hit while striking out five batters in four innings.
The wins for Chambers Academy pushed the Rebels back over .500 with a 12-11 record. Up next for Chambers Academy is a matchup at home against Ezekiel Academy on April 9.
