Shaefer Heard park closed over the weekend for West Point Lake triathlon

MOBILE, Ala. — R. Shaefer Heard Day Use Park and the road across West Point Dam will be closed to all vehicular traffic on Sunday, April 28, 2024, for the annual West Point Lake Triathlon.
The event, hosted by Georgia Multisports Productions, will include swimming, bicycling, and running, all staged from the boat ramp area at Heard Park. The triathlon is set to start at 7:30 a.m. and end around 12:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Visitors must vacate Heard Park by 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, to allow event coordinators to prepare. The boat launching ramps will be closed from Friday night through Sunday, April 26-28, and will reopen Sunday afternoon. The park and the road across the dam will remain closed until the event concludes.
Spectators are encouraged to arrive at the park by 7 a.m. on Sunday. No spectator vehicles will be allowed into the area after 7 a.m.
Volunteers will direct visitors to designated parking areas. Alternative locations for visitors include Long Cane Park on the Georgia side and Anderson Park on the Alabama side of the lake, both offering boat ramps, picnic facilities, pavilions, and restrooms.
