The race for the District 3 Troup County Board of Commissioners seat is headed to a runoff after none of the candidates received the required 50 percent majority of the votes.
Incumbent Commissioner Lewis Davis led vote totals at 472 (44.61%) falling short of the majority threshold.
Coming in second was Rex Scott with 265 (25.05%) of the votes. Scott edged out Ashley Adams for the runner-up spot with 242 (22.87%) votes. TC Nixon came in fourth only earning 79 (7.47%) votes.
Davis will face off against Scott in a final runoff for the Republican nomination for the seat on June 18, 2024.
Davis said he is humbled by the support he received in this election.
“I feel like my district believes that I’ve done a good job, and it’s just going to take another election to finish what we started,” Davis said.
“I do want to congratulate my opponents because they ran a good clean race,” Davis added.
Scott congratulated all of the candidates who won their respective elections and encouraged his supporters to return to the polls for the runoff.
“I appreciate everybody who voted for me and supported me. I just want to encourage everybody to put that June 18 date on the calendar to get ready for and I think we’re going to do some early voting, so make sure they take advantage of that and I appreciate their support,” Scott said.
Scott said he had hoped for a better turnout but with four candidates in the race he knew it was going to be well divided.
