Baseball season at Chambers Academy came to a tough close on Thursday as the Rebels fell to Edgewood Academy 11-1 in five innings in game three of the AISA 2A semifinals. 

Chambers Academy excelled with its back to the wall all season, but on Thursday the Rebels struggled to find timely hits. Chambers Academy finished with four stranded baserunners and two double plays. 

Edgewood’s bats were hot to start the game as the Wildcats got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run before another run scored on a ground out. 

Down by three, the Rebels finally found some momentum in the top of the third inning. Grey Hayley started the rally with a two-out single, and Eli Whorton followed it up with a one-run single to cut the deficit to two. 

That was as close as it got as Edgewood hit a two-run double before adding another run with a single to make it 6-1.

The Wildcats sealed the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run single and a three-run double to end the game by the mercy rule. 

Senior Kyle Hand got the start on the mound and allowed eight hits, nine earned runs and walked five batters in 4 ⅔ innings. Sam Smith replaced Hand in the fifth but did not record an out, allowing one hit and one earned run. 

The Rebels managed just five hits in the game, with Hayley leading the way with two hits and a walk. 

Chambers Academy finished the season with a 20-16 record but has a wealth of things to build on. The Rebels were sophomore-heavy this season and will return most of their key players.
