UPDATE: Threat of wind gusts due thunderstorms through Tuesday

Published 11:49 am Monday, May 13, 2024

UPDATE: Widespread rains with embedded storms will continue across SE AL through the afternoon, with gusty winds of 30 to 40mph on the back side of the rainfall due to what we call a “Wake Low”. These winds won’t last long but can’t rule out a few larger tree branches or a few weakened trees going down as a result.  Temperatures will remain on the cool side due to the clouds and rain through the afternoon, but can’t rule out a few peeks of sunshine late this afternoon.

The severe chances for tonight have been removed from the forecast.  Forecast trends are in agreement that we’ll be on the northern, more stable side of a complex of storms that is expected to move along the Gulf Coast.
We still maintain a Marginal Risk of a few severe storms during the afternoon on Tuesday with gusty winds and hail the main hazards. No further updates will be sent until tomorrow unless the forecast above changes.

A storm system will continue to move through the state, with at least two rounds of rain and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service of Birmingham. Some thunderstorms could be strong to severe, posing threats for damaging wind gusts. Confidence is low on the northern extent of the severe risk Monday night through Tuesday morning with the potential that much of the activity remains south of our area.

Changes from previous forecast: Removed Slight Risk and adjusted Marginal Risk further south. Also added timing graphics. Removed mention of flooding.
