Melissa Ann Lynn Felton, age 41 tragically passed away as the result of a traffic accident on May 24, 2024, in New Orleans, LA. Born on November 12, 1982 in Blytheville, AR to Brad and Wendy Lynn. She was born into the world of Air Force and traveling the United States. She was proud of growing up in all parts of the United States and could never settle into one place too long. Melissa loved traveling, adventure, and seeing the world.

     A graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelors of Arts in English, Melissa excelled in writing and creative thinking. Writing professors sang her praises with her brilliance. Her friends referred to her as a detailed and creative writer. She would whisk people away with her words and knowledge. Her reading obsession was legendary and she never had enough shelves to fill the amount of books she owned. She loved history, culture, photography, music, traveling, and learning about the Air Force. Melissa could tell you the intricacies of the Renaissance era and would often joke that she was born in the wrong time period.

     She is survived by her son, Cavan Bradford Felton; parents, Brad and Wendy Lynn; brother, William Lynn; sister, Sarah Hammond (Logan); grandparents, Sue Lynn Johnson, Charles McAteer, Margaret Childs; nephews, Jack, Samuel, Ford, Andrew & Henry Hammond; also, survived by her aunt, Debbie Long, and numerous family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, William “Jack” Lynn; uncle, William “Scott” Lynn; grandfather, James Ray Childs; and grandmother Peggy J. McAteer.

     A memorial service for Melissa will be held on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, at 3:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, Alabama. The Reverend Joe Watson will officiate. Melissa’s family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 2:00 PM (EDT) until the service hour at the funeral home.
