Benjamin Herman (Ben) Wright passed away on July 2, 2024, at the age of 83, in Savannah,
Georgia. He was born April 22, 1941 in West Point, Georgia. Ben spent his entire career in
public health, serving at the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Chatham County
Department of Public Health.
Ben graduated from West Point High School in West Point, Georgia. He was also a graduate of
Oxford College of Emory University and the University of Georgia. He received a master’s
degree in Governmental Administration from Georgia State University, which equipped him with
the knowledge and skills to make significant contributions to public health.
Beyond his professional life, Ben was a man of many interests. He had a passion for golf,
fishing, woodworking and Georgia football and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed a
good story and had a quick intelligence and an accurate sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Cecelia McWhorter Wright; sons, Jon (Jennifer) and Eric (Courtney);
grandchildren, Hunter and Ashlyn; brother Wallace (Nancy) and sister- in-law Judy. Ben was
preceded in death by his father, Edgar Howell Wright; his mother Sue Wallace Wright; and
brother, Phillip Edgar Wright.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Fox and Weeks on Hodgson
Memorial Drive. Visitation will be 11:00-12:00 with a service to follow 12:00-1:00.

Ben’s life was one of commitment and love, and he will be forever deeply missed by his family
and by all who knew him.
