An arrest has been made in regard to the shooting that occurred on June 30, 2024, here in West Point.

David Landrell McCoy, 19, of Valley, Alabama has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault (O.C.G.A. 16-5-21) after further investigation from our criminal investigations division. During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle used in the shooting incident was a red Chevrolet Cruze which was registered to the residential address of McCoy.

A universal alert was provided to surrounding agencies which led to the vehicle being stopped by a neighboring agency with McCoy driving the vehicle also. The vehicle had a bullet hole in the driver’s side mirror, which was consistent with evidence that was collected at the initial crime scene. McCoy also had a glock 26 handgun in his possession at the time of his arrest which was collected by officers as evidence. McCoy was transported to Troup County Sheriff’s Office without incident.
