Robert Ellison Gross of 102 County Road 56, Wedowee, died peacefully at home on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Mr. Gross was born September 24, 1937, and grew up in the Swagg community of Randolph County. He lived in Chambers County, Alabama, for 37 years before returning to Wedowee in 2002.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane Sudduth Gross; daughters, Luanne Stone (Anthony) and Robbie Neely (Calvin); son, John Gross; grandchildren, Caleb and Jonah Schafner, Heath (Heather) and Chase Daniel, and Candace Gross; and great-grandson, Ellis Daniel. He is also survived by his sister, Sollye Sikes; brothers, Jack and Sam Gross; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mr. Gross was preceded in death by his parents, Ellison and Essie Kirby Gross; brothers, Blake and Joe Gross; and sister, Nancy Cummings.
Mr. Gross owned and operated Gross Logging for 28 years. He was a lifelong fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and enjoyed reminiscing about his own high school football days as a star fullback for the Randolph County High School Tigers. One of his greatest joys in life was joking with and teasing his grandchildren. Mr. Gross was Baptist by faith.
A memorial service will be held at Benefield Funeral Chapel at 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 25, 2024, with Bro. Ricky Daniel and Bro. Blue Vardaman officiating. Visitation will be held beginning at 3:00 PM before services on Sunday.
