VALLEY — City of Valley employees and all departments will see benefits from the city’s new budget that will go into effect on October 1st.

“It’s a good budget,” Mayor Leonard Riley said at Monday’s council meeting when the new budget was approved. “There are only some minor changes from what we discussed in our recent work session. It’s balanced.”

The employees will be getting a three percent raise. City residents will benefit from more than $3 million in street resurfacing.

The budget includes more than $2.2 million in capital expenditures. The Public Works Department will be getting an expansion of its surrounding yard on Fairfax Bypass and new equipment in the form of an asphalt patcher, a new limb truck, and a 35-ton spring ride trailer.

Valley Parks & Recreation will be getting a $130,000 air conditioning upgrade for the Community Center, a new bus for the Senior Center, a Tahoe for the staff and a new football practice field behind the Point University football office. Some topsoil and sand has already been placed on the site.

The playing fields at Valley Sportsplex will be getting some laser leveling to keep them in ideal shape to keep hosting tournaments during the spring and summer months.

Anyone who goes into Medical Park will be glad to know that the serpentine road that winds through it will be getting some major work.

The broken-up concrete that’s presently there will be taken up and replaced with a smooth asphalt surface.

Some of the new roads on the Burney property site will be paved as well.

The city hall staff will be getting some new computers. and Planning & Development will be getting some office improvements including new flooring.

Valley Police Department will be getting the annual lease payment on the vehicles that VPD received last year. They will also be getting some new 911iNet radios.

The Tahoe that will be going to Valley Parks & Recreation won’t be brand new, but it will be a slightly used vehicle in very good condition. “We will be getting it from the ALDOT yard in Montgomery,” said Mayor Riley. “They always keep their vehicles in good shape.”
