The East Alabama Fire Department was called out to a house fire at 12:52 p.m. on Sedgefield Road off of Fairfax Bypass in Valley. Jacob Geiger, EAFD Chief, said that the resident was home when the fire started but was able to self-evacuate before calling 911.

“It came in as a fully involved house fire, when we arrived on the scene, heavy fire and smoke coming from the back right corner,” Geiger said. “Two crews made entry and knocked the fire out.”  

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although no foul play is suspected. Geiger said about a quarter of the house received severe fire damage, while the rest of the house had smoke and heat damage.
