Chambers Academy’s homecoming was eventful both on and off the field. The Rebels faced the Morgan Academy Senators. The Senators lost their quarterback, Caden Tellier, after he collapsed on the field earlier in the season, later passing away. The Rebels have been sporting a marron 17 on their helmets to honor Tellier, matching Morgan Academy’s helmets which all have the number. After a moment of silence, the two teams met on the gridiron.
Chambers got off to an explosive start scoring two touchdowns in the first couple of minutes. On the opening punt, TJ Daniels ran the back into Senator territory. Luke Tarver made two long runs and put the ball across the goal line. Quarterback Landon Hand kept it for the two-point conversion.
A muffed punt return by Morgan Academy gave the Rebels the ball back immediately. Tarver once again rushed for another touchdown, tallying two in less than two minutes. He added another two points to make it 16-0.
Tarver didn’t get a break, getting the first tackle against Morgan Academy. A 40-yard pass got the Senators to the six-yard line. A Morgan Academy fourth down touchdown pass was called back and the ball was turned over the next play.
It was Deja vu on the next drive as Tarver ran it over forty yards to the red zone. The running back finished the job with a short run, with four minutes left in the first.
The Rebels showed off their passing prowess and Hand got it to Cameron Gooden then Wharton to get downfield for first and goal. Who else but Tarver punched it to end the first 28-0
The second was quieter but not silent. Hand started it off with a 40-yard run. A couple of bang-up runs from Wharton got the ball to the four. Tarver notched his fifth rushing touchdown of the night with 5:21 left in the half.
Though they struggled running on the Chambers defense, Morgan Academy had some success passing. A long touchdown pass by the Senators put them on the board with 2:43 left, making it 34-6
The first non-Tarver TD was a 30-yard run by McDaniel with 1:35 still on the clock for the first half. 40-6
Hunter Andrews intercepted a senator pass as time ran out putting an exclamation on an incredibly productive half for the Rebels.
At halftime, the homecoming festivities began. All ages participate in the homecoming court from kindergarteners to seniors. This year’s homecoming princess and queen were Emily Sasser and Olivia Daughtrey, respectively.
The third quarter started on a down note when the rebels fumbled on their own 45-yard line. A Spencer Newman sack and blocked pass helped make sure the Senators couldn’t capitalize.
A 40-yard passing touchdown to Gooden was called back for an illegal shift. Another penalty for holding pushed the Rebels back further.
Norgard stretched out for a touchdown with a little over a minute left. Morgan came right back with another bomb to end the third 46-12.
The Rebels would add on in the fourth with a Cobie Whatley rushing touchdown. This would end the action at 52-12. Chambers is now 5-1 on the season as they go into a two-game home stand.
