BEULAH, Ala. — The Beulah Bobcats were in control from start to finish to win in impressive style Friday night. They sent a large crowd home very happy on homecoming night with a 48-8 win over the Childersburg Tigers to improve their season record to 6-2 and 3-2 in 3A Region 4. The win sets up a key Region game next week on the road versus Randolph County.
The Bobcats dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The offensive line opened holes for quarterback Demarion Foreman and running backs Khamoni Lindsey, Tristan Robinson and Jo Jo Wilson to run through. A physical, hard-hitting defense totally shut down everything Childersburg tried to do on the ground. Their only score came on a long passing play against Beulah reserves very late in the game.
The Bobcats scored on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead. They went 53 yards, all on the ground to charge early. Foreman scored the touchdown on a keeper play and Reed Maloof added the point-after to give Beulah a lead they’d never relinquish.
Childersburg did manage two first downs on their next possession, both coming on fake punts. They were once again in a punting situation but with it being fourth and 20 this time they booted the ball away and Beulah put the ball in play on their 36. Foreman led them on a 64-yard drive with Lindsey going 14 yards off the right side of the line to cap off the drive. Maloof’s second PAT of the game made it 14-0 Bobcats with 57.7 seconds left in the first quarter.
Maloof, who has kicked field goals in practice from more than 60 yards out, had a really good game kicking the ball. He had two 35-yard field goals, was perfect on this point-after attempts and kicked off into the end zone most of the time.
One of the few kicks that didn’t make the end zone had the Tigers backed up deep on their end of the field when the kick returner got tackled inside the 10. They couldn’t move it from there, and disaster struck the visitors from Talladega County when their punter got nailed in the backfield on a third fake punt attempt. The Bobcats took over on the eight. It took them only one play to grab a three-TD lead. Foreman kept the ball around left end for a score. Maloof’s third point-after made it 21-0 with 11:39 left before halftime.
Childersburg did move the ball past midfield on their next possession before a holding penalty killed the drive. They punted it away on fourth and long. A good roll pinned the Bobcats in a big hole, down to the 11.
That would be no big obstacle for a hot offense. Foreman directed an 89-yard drive, the biggest play of which was a long pass to Drew Duval. The well-executed pass play from Foreman to Duval advanced the ball from the Beulah 35 to the Childersburg 23. Two plays later and the Bobcats were in the end zone for a fourth time on a 20-yard run up the middle by Robinson. Maloof’s PAT made it 28-0 with 4:51 left in the half.
Beulah had one more possession before halftime and got close enough for Maloof to attempt the first of his two 35-yard field goals. It split the uprights to give the Bobcats a 31-0 lead at the half.
Childersburg started the second half the same way they had played most of the first half – deep on their end of the field. A mishandled kick return had them starting from the six. They couldn’t move it and punted it away on fourth and nine from the seven.
Beulah started on their 42 and quickly made the end zone. Lindsey scored on a 15-yard run to build the lead by six points. Malouf’s point-after made it 38-0 with 5:40 left in the quarter on a fast-running clock.
The lead went to 41-o with Maloof’s second 35-yard field goal early in the final period.
That set the stage for Childersburg’s one big offensive play of the game. It was a well-executed 60-yard pass play against Beulah’s backup players. A successful conversion made the score 41-8 with 8:50 showing in the game.
Beulah had one more scoring drive before the game ended. They went 70 yards after the kickoff with most of the yardage coming on a dazzling run by Jo Jo Wilson. He started left on the play and then cut back to the right finding a wide open field. He made it all the way to the Tiger four before being brought down. Robinson ran the ball around left end on the next play to score the final TD of the game. Maloof got to rest his foot on the point after. Luke Rybacki booted it through to make the score 48-8.
Wilson had another big run in the game’s final minute, going 49 yards to the Childersburg four. From there, Beulah downed the ball on four successive plays to turn the ball over with only a few seconds left. The visitors returned the favor on their final play ending the game with a score of 48-8.
