Chambers continues to look like the defending state champs. The Rebels had another productive Friday night, routing Evangel Christian High School 39-0.

A fumble on Chambers’ first drive gave the home crowd pause. However, when Evangel went three and out followed by TJ Daniel sacking the quarterback on a fake fourth-down punt, they got right back in it.

The momentum officially shifted when on the next play Eli Wharton took the ball for the first touchdown of the game.

Each of the team’s defenses would stifle the other in the first, ending the quarter 6-0.

“The game ball goes to the Defense tonight, I don’t think they let up a first down in the first half,” said Jason Allen, Chambers’ head coach.

The Chambers back line had themselves a half. Aiden Anglin had two interceptions on the night, while his counterpart Hunter Andrews made a diving interception of his own off a tipped pass.

The D-Line was just as impactful. Luke Tarver set up a fumble recovery by Andrews with a big hit to Evangel’s running back late in the first half.

Tarver would start the second quarter off with a long run to make it 12-0. Daniel followed it up for another two points.

After the Andrews diving interception, short rushes got the Rebels downfield for a second Tarver touchdown.

It would be back-and-forth drives before Colton Fuller intercepted the ball on Evangel’s 30 and ran it back for a pick-six with three and a half minutes on the clock.

Andrews’ fumble recovery set up a Landon Hand pass to Daniels to make the score 32-0 and out of reach before the end of the first half.

A player worth mentioning is Spencer Newman. Newman was all over the field on defense, contributing to the Tarver tackle that forced the fumble. But most impressive was his punting. Newman’s big frame launched the ball out of Evangel’s end zone multiple times. Allen said no team has made them punt more than twice in a game this season. While Evangel stopped the offense more than anyone else, Newman was unforgiving on field position.

The third quarter was unproductive for both sides with neither team making much ground. But with some helpful penalties and an aggressive run by Wharton, the Rebels ended the third in the red zone.

To start the fourth, Jacob Norgard punched it in and a good kick by Kaisen Nix made it 39-0. The clock kept running for the rest of the quarter, and that would be all she wrote.

The Rebels will get a bye week before a state championship rematch against Banks Academy. The game will also serve as the region championship.
